Okra Recipes

Okra (ladies finger, bhendi) is quite a popular vegetable in India, and the okra recipes below are some of my favorite Indian recipes. Okra can be fried, stewed, boiled, sauteed, curried, and pickled.





Okra has abundant fiber and mucillage which offer several health benefits. The fiber helps stabilize blood sugar by delaying sugar absorption from the intestines. It also helps maintain the health of the gastro-intestinal tract, and heals ulcers.

Okra is rich in essential nutrients like vitamin C, B-Complex, folate, and iron. Because of it's high folic acid content, which promotes fetal development, okra is recommended for pregnant women.

Okra is an ideal weight-loss vegetable as it is extremely low in calories and fat-free. To reduce its slime, cook okra whole and avoid overcooking.
