Onion Raita

Onion Raita is a yogurt-based salad that's a nice accompaniment to spicy flavored rice dishes such as pulao, and any Indian bread. Mildly spiced, this raita is easy to make, and adds a nice, cool crunch to your meal.

Servings: 2-4
Cooking Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup, onions, cut into thin, long pieces
  • 2 cups plain yogurt
  • 1 tsp grated ginger (or grated garlic)
  • 1 small green chilli, finely cut
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, add some salt to the onions and set aside for 1-2 hours. Squeeze out the water.

  2. Heat 1 tsp oil in a small pan, and fry the ginger and chillies for a few seconds.

  3. Add this to the yogurt, and mix well. Add more salt if needed.

  4. Serve the onion raita with roti or rice.
